Franchising trendsetters

TrendsettersBusiness trends are continuously changing, and the same goes for the franchise industry. In order to remain successful, business owners need to be mindful of the current developments in their industry. If you own a restaurant you’ve noticed a contingent of consumers have gone from wanting fast food to now seeking healthy dining options. So, what are the primary driving forces behind these ever-changing trends?

If we look back on our economic trend over the past 50 years, we can see that baby boomers are the driving force behind many industry trends. These individuals account for a vast majority of the population, meaning this generation has been setting business trends their entire lives. Today they’re living longer, are more active, and are looking for products and services that align with their lifestyle.

Technology has also played a major role in the changing trends. It used to be if sales are down, businesses would pick up the phone and start cold calling people. In today’s world, consumers are turned off by this approach. They want to feel like they have a relationship with the product before purchasing. Today’s consumers turn to the Internet to research the product or service to see how friends and family weigh in based on their individual experiences. They want to make sure they can trust the brand before taking the plunge to consider and/or adopt.

So what are the “safe” industries in which to invest? narrows them down to three categories:

  • Recession-proof brands
  • Green, eco-friendly businesses
  • Fitness, health, and personal care services

In 2007, some people may have thought TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, a moving company, did not meet the recession-proof brand standard. To be honest, there were moments were we had to step back and look in the mirror to see we needed to change some things in order to continue to thrive. And it worked. During the recession, not only did we grow, but we thrived and we are still looking for ways to keep this momentum moving forward. We changed processes and sought out professionals with the skills required to fill gaps in our knowledge base. Today, we have 58 straight months of growth and 42 consecutive months of record growth.

Why should the wonderful world of moving become your next business adventure? Well, people will always need to move. That will never change. In fact, the average American moves once every five years. Moving isn’t exactly trendy; rather it’s a necessity of life. At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® we pride ourselves in being the leaders in the moving industry. We will never settle for anything less. Our CEO, Brig Sorber, says it best:

“We are the moving company that never made it because if we ever stop to think that we did, that’s when our competitors will prevail.”
