Owning a business is a major decision to make, full of constant change and obstacles as you try to be the most successful business owner you can possibly be.
When you make the decision to get into franchising, there are numerous important decisions that need to be made in order to set yourself up on the right path. Everything from picking the right people you surround yourself with, to deciding on what you want out of your business, and what your personal beliefs are.
Setting yourself up personally and mentally before you decide to tackle your franchising opportunity will create a clear path for how things will run, and will provide you with a plan to succeed.
Creating a company vision
Creating a company vision is a good way to create a plan of what everything should look like down the road, full goals and ideas based off the path of success you have in mind.
A good company vision will show where you want to be, and will pave the way for each employee so they know what to expect for the future of the company.
“The old adage is true – if you don’t know where you are going, how will you know if you get there? In 2012, we set out to create our company vision for the year 2018. It was a chance for us to look out five years, and really paint a picture of what success looks like for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® brand,” said TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® President Randy Shacka. “This focused on several areas, including our size, what customers were saying about us, what technology looks like, and what our team members feel when they walk in the door each day.”
Shacka stressed defining a vision for your brand is critical, as it helps bring clarity of the future, and it brings discipline related to what you should be and should not be working on, while sharing the opportunities available to those willing to work for it.
Developing a mission statement and core values
One of the best steps to take when beginning a franchising opportunity is to create a list of core values that you want yourself to live by, and your business to run by. This will create that clear path of success, and can serve as a reference point during adversity and times of doubt.
Another important step to consider is creating a mission statement – a written statement based off the core values that you have established, which will serve as the selling point for your business and what you stand for. Finding people that share in these ideas and motivational plans will help everything blend together, and will create a culture of good business.
