Ohio franchisee hopes to provide others with same career opportunities he experienced

Before joining the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK family, Franchisee Josh Payne began his professional career working as a sales manager for a lawn care company.

This helped him learn the ropes of customer service, which would go on to pay off in a big way as he joined TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. Payne worked for three years with the company, but left after he decided to pursue a managerial position for a large national call center.

He felt he wasn’t getting what he wanted out of the job, and realized he needed to find a way to get back in with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

Josh Payne“While gone from the system for those three years, I felt what I was doing just wasn’t rewarding enough for me,” said Payne, who is currently a franchisee for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Canton, Ohio location. “I saw an opportunity to get back into the system as a sales manager, and within one year of being back in the system, we opened the Canton location.”

Payne helped open the Canton location in January of 2016, and is now in his third year of being a franchisee. There have been some challenges along the way as he shifted from a frontline role into a leadership role, but his love for the company and what he’s able to do for customers has made it worthwhile.

“I fell in love with the system as a moving consultant. Being able to truly help customers during a very stressful time in their lives was very rewarding,” Payne said. “As I expanded my knowledge on business in general, it became increasingly obvious to me that owning a franchise was exactly what I wanted to do. Home Office provides an abundant amount of support as a franchisee, and when coupled with the growth and possibilities, it was a no-brainer for me.”

When Payne got started as franchisee of the Canton location, one of the main challenges he faced was teaching his business background to people at his location. This started with training his management and support teams on how to mesh the customer service mindset with a business mindset, and he has been able to encourage this shift over his time as a franchisee.

Helping people in the workplace was something Payne gained extensive experience doing at his previous jobs, and it has become his favorite aspect of being a franchisee with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

“[My favorite thing] is helping people move forward, whether that be our customers or members of my staff,” Payne said. “[I enjoy] feeling like we actually made a difference in someone’s life, and it’s nice knowing that we have ability to help and add value to our community.”

Now that Payne has established his footing as a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee, his vision is set on expanding the brand – and this starts with taking control of more franchise locations.

“I plan to expand to other franchises. We recently purchased the Potomac (MD) location, and were able to take an employee from Canton and place him into the general manager role there,” Payne said. “He will at some point join the ownership team at that franchise. I want to provide more opportunities to my team members who have the drive to be business owners.”

Payne is another success story of someone who worked their way up through the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK company, and he has made it a point of emphasis to provide those same opportunities to those who work under him.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK works tirelessly to provide a culture of success for each and every employee across our franchise locations, and stories like Payne’s prove that with the right amount of hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

These opportunities to make a difference are the number one reason Payne would recommend TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchising to anyone interested.

“Franchising with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK gives you the ability to run a small business with the support of a very caring system,” Payne said. “The revenue and profit potential in comparison to other franchising opportunities is incredible. When you add those things with the ability to truly help people and make a difference in the community, it is an opportunity everyone should look into.”
