Some come from within our system and have worked their way up from frontline positions, some have been successful business owners in different fields, but arguably none have the background that Multi-unit Franchisee James Bennett has.
Bennett opened his first location early 2014 in Rochester, Minn., but his business background wasn’t anywhere close to what you’d normally see in the moving industry.
It’s certainly not a story you see very often in the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee family, but Bennett’s experiences in the veterinary world provide us yet another wrinkle in this diverse network of franchisees.
How did he end up involved with franchising at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK? A variety of factors, including a name that he thought was catchy.
“First off – I thought the name of the company was simply genius,” Bennett said. “Secondly, I had a family member who had worked for two franchise locations in the past, so I was familiar with the brand. I thought purchasing a business would be a good addition to my life, and a franchise was something I could still be involved in after I retired from being a vet. Lastly, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s continued focus on customer service matched what I have tried to do as a business professional my entire life.”
With his original career path being nothing like the world of moving, there was a learning curve for Bennett after purchasing his first franchise, but he’s been able to tackle it head on and find success in the following years as he works to grow his locations.
“Being a long-term business owner gave me a lot of experience in running an actual business, which helped,” Bennett said. “The biggest challenges I faced were learning how to translate my vision of the business into actual performance.”
As with any growing TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee, there’s always a list of growth goals they work tirelessly to complete.
For Bennett, his focus is working daily to improve customer service scores and finding continued profitability within his operations. It’s always a challenge, but he believes the continued drive for top customer service will pay off in the long run.
“We are always working to improve customer service,” Bennett said. “Getting and keeping everyone involved in the business’ culture is key. We are also tenacious at our locations. We do not give up easily when a customer voices dissatisfaction and we will always try to make it right with them. This does not come without cost, but I believe we make it up with lower damages and business growth.”
Bennett’s story to franchising is certainly unique, but it shows just how accommodating and beneficial a franchising opportunity with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK can be.
