TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees start off the New Year focused and ready for success

2018 is in the books, and although 2019 signals an opportunity for new change, ideas, and growth – it’s business as usual for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees, who have already been working diligently to get their franchises ready for the New Year.

In order for our franchises to continue offering the best moving services possible, there’s not much time to stop and relax, and it’s this hardworking attitude that has allowed us to grow so much as a brand. Just last year, we eclipsed our 7 millionth move as a system, and our moving teams have no intention of slowing down in the New Year.

The TWO MEN AND A TRUCK brand runs off the efforts of each franchise location in our family, and this starts with great leadership at the franchisee position – where a competitive nature and a willingness to succeed makes all of the difference.

Holly Stewart“I’m very competitive by nature, and goals give me that benchmark to drive my competitive spirit,” said Holly Stewart, franchisee for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Cobb County South location in Georgia. “Everything we do throughout the year revolves around a set of yearly goals, so I always devote some time at the end of the year to determine next year’s goals and what steps are necessary to achieve them.”

Staying focused and committed to these goals is essential for any franchise location, and finding the best ways to act upon them can make the difference in a big year.

With Stewart’s two Georgia locations, she tries to break it into three main areas that are obtainable for both franchises.

“We have three main goals every year – satisfaction, revenue, and compliance,” Stewart said. “Each of these goals can be broken down into smaller steps that make these more tangible and gives everyone on staff a sense of accountability. We want to maintain growth, continue our 97% satisfaction rate, and ensure we’re running smoothly all year long.”

A big part of the New Year – and any time of the year in the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK system – is making sure the proper staff is in place. A well-equipped staff is the biggest key to success at a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise, and franchisees all across the country put countless hours into making sure things are set.

Brian-Stern“Our teams are already in place, and 2018 was a big year of transition for us,” said Brian Stern, a multi-unit franchisee with locations in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. “We made a lot of operational changes that did come with their fair share of adversity, but in the end were for the better. In 2019, I think we will see our entire operation stabilize and we’ll be able to start capitalizing on the changes made.”

Stern knows this starts at the top with himself, and it’s his personal goal to make sure these changes are effective.

“Personally, my goal is to make sure I am providing adequate support to our staff,” Stern said. “Not just looking at our goals in the short-term, but understanding and planning for our goals long-term.”

For Franchisee Pete Ruffing, who runs two Florida locations in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, the New Year provides a time to remind everyone to get back to the basics and remember what works best.

pete-ruffing“I learned long ago that if you just focus on the basics and do them to the best of your ability, you’ll move the needle in an upward direction,” Ruffing said. “We are constantly challenging ourselves on how we stay on task and not get bogged down or led astray by items or issues that take away from our great customer service.”

Ruffing reiterated that while it’s important to stick to the basics, a key piece in being able to do that is making sure everyone on his teams knows the goal and stays on the same page.

“It’s just consistently communicating and engaging with everyone,” Ruffing said. “Being able to approach each relationship with an employee as a partnership and to show them we have a genuine interest in their professional growth. Also, recognizing the achievements of our staff and not letting their hard work go unnoticed is huge, no matter how small it may seem.”
