2019 scholarship winner opens his first franchise in Texas

After a long journey and experience at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® over the years, more than year of course work and tasks, a dramatic celebration, and months and months of business planning, Juan Gallegos’ dream finally came true last week.

Gallegos – who won the 2019 Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward Scholarship award – opened his first franchise in El Paso, Texas, last week, helping to continue expanding the footprint for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and giving us another chance to make an impact in the Lone Star State. Gallegos is ready to get to work right away on his franchise, and is looking forward to the opportunity to run his own business.

“One of the reasons I came to El Paso instead of anywhere else was to bring brand awareness to the Hispanic community,” Gallegos said. “Bringing TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to this area will not only help me grow, but also help others grow across the system.”

For now, the tasks at hand will be getting a staff in place for his franchise and working to build brand awareness in the El Paso community.

Gallegos is welcoming the challenge, and knows he’ll be able to get the right people involved for his location.

“I’m most excited about getting to share the experience, and just being able to relate to the new faces coming in through the door,” Gallegos said. “Considering that I started when Bob Christensen opened the Rockford, Ill., franchise, [I’ll be] able to relive that, and seeing it through that perspective [is exciting]. I’m just excited for something new.”

Gallegos is the latest member of the Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward Scholarship program to open a franchise location. The program puts perspective franchisees through a year of training and learning on what it takes to open your own franchise location, and teaches them some of the finer points of business planning, operations, and other important aspects of opening and running a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise.

Gallegos, who had a rapid career climb after starting out as a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK mover nearly a decade ago, impressed throughout the program, and ultimately was chosen by the executive team as the winner.

“I have always wanted to own a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise ever since I first saw what this company was all about,” Gallegos said. “It’s very easy to tell yourself you’re not ready for something. I knew if I continued to tell myself that, I’d never get anywhere, so I went for this opportunity and haven’t looked back.”

From the time he entered the program until he was announced as the winner, he has never taken it for granted, and he’s worked hard to make the most of his opportunities.

“It’s a life-changing opportunity for me to move forward, and for me to be a part of something special,” Gallegos said.

As Gallegos gets ready to enter his first year of business ownership, he’s looking to get things rolling in the right direction and hopes that with success, he’s able to keep growing his franchise and even look into opening additional franchises down the road.

But most of all, he’s hoping his story can inspire others within the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK system to keep growing their careers and chase their goals.

“There is a lot of talent out there,” Gallegos said. “If you dream big enough, you’ll be able to own your own franchise.”
