A strong impression of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK sparked multi-unit franchisee’s interest in the brand

Multi-unit Franchisee Curtis Newman’s main goals day-to-day are trying to grow his multiple TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations by providing the best customer service possible for his customers.

It’s the goal for all of our franchisees, but Newman was on the other end of this years ago – and it paved the way for where he is now. Newman, originally from Iowa, was familiar with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and had seen the trucks around.

He had been working as a tennis pro at a fitness center in Ames, Iowa, and then was a financial manager for a car dealership. Newman had used TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in the past for moving services but after his parents had used the brand and raved about the service, it sparked an idea. Newman had been looking for something new career-wise, and he had the idea of joining TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

“I was attracted to becoming a franchisee with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK because of how successful the brand was in the state of Iowa,” Newman said.

Newman and his two brothers, Kevin and Steve, decided it was time to make the switch and ended up purchasing their first franchise location in San Antonio, which set off a journey of franchising success that has continued to this day.

“I became a franchisee for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in December of 2014,” said Newman, who is now a multi-unit franchisee with locations in Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Texas. “The process was very detailed and organized in the months leading up to everything. We were fortunate enough to be able to speak with the Home Office First Gear Team on a weekly basis, and they made sure we had everything in order to be successful.”

Since that day in 2014 when he signed his first franchise agreement, it’s been a constant push forward for Newman and his franchise partners.

With their continued acquisition of franchise locations, they have shown the ability to operate at a high level in multiple states, and although it’s been hectic at times, Newman feels it’s been incredibly worthwhile.

“I feel my journey has been a bit of a whirlwind,” Newman said. “Acquiring five franchise territories in four years has been exhilarating, but also took a lot of time. The first few years were full of learning through trial and error. I have never regretted the decision to become a franchisee, and I can’t wait to keep growing within the brand.”

Newman and his brothers have come a long way since 2014, where they had to quickly learn the operational side of things. They also quickly adapted to the challenges of operating multiple locations in different cities, but Newman feels they’ve found a system that works well for them. His favorite aspect of being a franchisee is helping other people grow their careers, and it’s something their entire team takes pride in.

“I spend a majority of my time working on employee development,” Newman said. “The more we are able to grow our employees, the more opportunities we will have for expansion. One of my favorite things about this career is watching employees grow. It is great when you hire someone as a mover then watch them transition through the ranks.”

Working with his brothers has fit right in with the family mentality that is held here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, and the Newman brothers have paired up with business partners Tyler Whalen and Justin Tangeman to continue growing their reach as franchise owners.

Moving forward, Newman said his biggest goals will continue to be working toward expanding their current locations and working to develop the people they hire. It’s been a wild ride since 2014, but Newman would recommend this career path to anyone.

“I would recommend franchising with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK because of the support you receive from the Home Office,” Newman said. “I have owned other franchises in my professional career outside of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, and I can honestly say that none of them provide as much support as you get with this company.”
